Kirsten and Seth say "Namaste"! (not really, actually...)
The past two weeks have been such a whirlwind! So many (mostly positive) stuff have happened and I can’t wait to share but gimme more time and I’ll definitely air it here. So, so, so excited!
Meanwhile, I captured some videos of the kids when I was back home in Singapore the week before. I managed to witness Seth’s horrendous singing in real life and it was as amusing as it was, erm, bad. But on a more positive note, this is a video of him playing the doting big brother to Kayla:
Aww, so adorable that little boy! Matt and I also managed to bring him along to the cinema to catch Shrek. We were supposed to bring Kirsten but that girl wasn’t completely well from her cough yet so my sister wanted to swop kids. Awful Uncle Matthew, who has a blatant favouritism towards Kirsten, was a little sulky about the switch so I death-stared him to shut him up.
I have to say, Seth was so effortless during the movie! He asked for milk even before the show started and I was panicking cos I couldn’t find any milk in his bag! So I’m thankful that boy is a glutton who’ll eat anything so I basically stuffed bread and seaweed into his mouth throughout the whole show.
Then the toilet-trained Seth asked to pee 3/4 through the movie. Even though he was wearing a diaper, I decided to be a good aunt and not ask him to disrupt his training by bringing him to the toilet instead. While I was trying to remove his pants and diaper, the boy started to dance to Lemon Tree, which was playing in the airways. And I was like “Didi, you’re damn cute when you do that little dance but would you stand the hell still?!?!” in my mind.
And I’m sooo proud to say he wasn’t fidgety at all throughout the movie. He was rather enraptured by the “green monster” and “fat cat” and even managed to ‘roar’ like the green monster after the show.
However, he went home and first thing he did was to excitedly share with his father about the “green monster and black monster” and Matt and I were like, “Who the hell was the black monster in the movie?!” Ah well, two-year-olds!
OMG, I can’t believe how horribly awful Seth is at singing. The other day, I was on the phone with Che when I heard some noise in the background. I could only make out as a sorta-singing voice through a mic. It was rather loud and I asked Che what the hell was that all about!
She laughed, slightly embarrassingly, and said it was Seth singing. I was like “Oh… That’s pretty awful…”
In this video, Che managed to capture Seth’s, erm, performance. Please don’t expect too much from him. I guess, after a while, you can at least make out he’s singing “Happy Birthday”???
I hope his musical inclination will evolve over time……
I was just reading Che’s entry on Kiks and Seth acting like the big sister and brother now and it pains my heart knowing that poor little boy cries himself to sleep sometimes! :’(
I can’t wait to see them again!
I think that’s it from Che! I’m certain (and I think she’ll make darn sure it’s definite) she’d ‘closed factory’ for good. Three kids in this day sounds like a handful, doesn’t it? It made me wonder how did our mothers and grandmothers do it man. Che is a full-time SAHM and has a helper and I’ve to confess I’d underestimated how tough it is to be a SAHM until a few days ago when I was at Che’s.
Can I just confess that ever since Seth came about, I had always secretly prefer him to Kiks? OK, before you accuse me of being an awful aunt (which I already am, most of the times anyway), lemme explain!!! First, I’d always preferred boys to girls. Boys are just cuter, you know? Girls are just too pretty and precious, sometimes. I think I’m being competitive though? Hahahaha
Secondly, Kiks had a MAJOR case of jealousy when Seth first came about and naturally, you side the ‘dark horse’? And Didi’s such a major loser that it’s actually really endearing. Kiks’ the ballsy, out-there girl who dares to do everything Seth doesn’t dare to. And the little boy doesn’t get shy or embarrassed about his lack of courage. He’ll just smile and tell you “Didi is scared.” Ahahahaha
But during the past few days while I was back in SG, I had completely saw Seth’s true colours and how misunderstood (by me) Kiks’ been!!!
Seth and Kiks really have a love-hate relationship. They’re each other’s favourite playmate and I can’t help but giggle ALL. THE. TIME whenever I see them interact:
Seth awaits his sister’s return from her half-day school every day at noon and will greet Kiks excitedly and that day, he asked her if the weather was very hot. Hahahaha
Till it’s time for Kiks to shower and the competitive Seth will insist on showering too. He would run to the bathroom and stand under the shower, waiting for his clothes to be removed. Big Sis Kiks walked in and told Seth calmly: “Didi, you shower tonight OK? Che che just came back from school so Che che has to shower first.” And with that, Seth would be satiated and walk out of the bathroom agreeably.
Oh when Seth cries during shower cos he hates having water in his eyes (that’s why he’s afraid to swim. Hahahaha), Kiks would tell Seth: “Didi, look up! (I think she meant “tilt your head up”) So the water won’t go into your eyes.”
Moreover, Kiks no longer grabs things from Seth’s hands. She would convince (or some people say ‘manipulate’, hahaha!) Seth why the toy he’s holding is not that great when actually, she wants it for herself. But well, that’s a much smarter move than plain grabbing right?!
For several times now, I’d witnessed Seth was always the one stirring shit up and when he threw things at his sister or hits her, she wouldn’t return the blows. Kiks would tolerate it for a while until her little brother’s pushing his luck with her. Hahhahah.

Seth, the brat.
Awww, the whole point of the above entry is that… I’m super impressed by Kiks’ maturity!!! And now, I’m swelling with so much affection and love for her that no, I no longer favour Didi! I love them both! But it pains me sometimes to see Kiks being bullied by her younger bro. :(
I was there with the kids when Mei mei (aka Kayla) returned home for the first time. You should see Kiks! She didn’t leave Kayla’s side for a full hour! She was just sprawling on the bed, staring at her little sister and telling her what she did in school today:
Didi was surprisingly OK as well. According to Che, he had bouts of jealousy but nothing as fiercely jealous as Kiks was when Didi was first born. The other day, he wanted to go into the room to see Mei mei but was apprehensive so he asked me to go into his parents’ room with him.
Kayla was hungry and cranky so she was crying. Seth sat next to her and just stared. Hahahaha! I taught him to pat Mei mei’s little tummy to coax her and tell her “Gor gor is here, don’t cry OK?” and he did that and miraculously, Mei mei stopped crying! Seth was pretty happy he was being a big brother. He smiled at me and said: “Mei mei stopped crying!” Aw, such a sweetheart.

I know I barely said anything about Kayla but ah well, third kid already what, not so excited anymore??? Hahahaha, I’m allowed to say this cos I’m the third and accidental kid as well!
Matt and I went over to Che’s on Sunday night and Matt actually stood next to Kayla’s crib and looked at her for quite a while. I told him he didn’t have to pretend to be polite and he chuckled a little embarrassingly and insisted he wasn’t being PC and even commented Mei mei’s quite a cutie. Haha, that boy loves kids but he gets daunted by the sight of wee little babies. Hahahaha
OK, more on Kayla! Erm, she was born on 29 March, 16 days before Che’s estimated date of delivery, and weighed 3.75kg, just like both her siblings – everything that Che texted me while I was in Beijing. Hahaha. She’s an… Aries! Just like my ah kwa. And I’m not sure if that’s a good thing… Ahahaha, loves you Karen!
And if you stalk my sister’s blog about the kids as well, sorry for her lack of update! She’s still in pain from her C-section and is trying to recover while managing two toddlers who fight like there’s no tomorrow EVERY DAY.
With the third one coming along anytime now in two weeks’ time, I was reminiscing the times when Kiks and Seth were smaller (I talk like I’m a mum! Crazy talk!) by going through some old pictures. Hehehe. I came upon these few and thought they were incredibly funny pictures of Seth. He was about 16 months then:

I think the boy perfected how a scowl should look like at an early age. And I absolutely love the last picture! What were they whispering about?! I had no idea.
Oh mei mei! You gonna have large shoes to fill seeing how your big sis and bro were so damn cute! You better be just as adorable, if not more! Cos I’m, erm, biased about appearances that way. (So not mum talk anymore. Horrible aunt, I am.)
So I finally had the chance to chat to the little ones on Skype the other day and gosh, were they hilarious! Hahaha, I wanted to ‘play’ with them despite being on the other side of the screen so I asked for a cup of ‘coffee’ from their Little Tykes kitchenette.
Kirsten took the time to ‘brew’ a cup for me while Didi just ‘poured’ one cup, mixed with ‘tap water’ (?!?!) and offered me through the screen. So I was the dutiful aunt by pretending to drink it and then praised them over the good ‘coffee’. Hahahaha
Then Didi became a little crazy and for the next 20 minutes, he was preparing all sorts of ‘food’ for me.

He's preparing "banana soup" for me here. I know. Scaryyy.
Then Kiks requested for Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ (yes, that’s the choice of song for that 4yo!) and so Che put it on for them. They got into their respective dance outfits. Kiks had her purple dress on while erm, Didi…

Can you see the little boy on the extreme right? Yes, it's a boy.

The sis and bro having a dance-off.

Then when he fell down during the dance-off, he pouted for a while.

And this is Sue's doing, insisting Waffle and Seth are best pals.
January has became a special month in my family since the arrival of Kiks and Seth. The little boy is an Aquarius while Kiks and I are both Capricorns so I often attribute her likeness to me as being a fellow Capri.
Anyhow, my family and I had a small celebration for the prissy little girl when I was still back in SG on the 1st, before they had their kids party on the 10th.

Birthday cake courtesy of Uncle Matthew who had a hard time deciding
The little girl is a smart one. She’d been saying she was three years old but right after she blew the candles, she changed her tune to saying “I’m four years old” and had been religiously sticking to that number since. Well done Kiks!

Sighhh, I really love these little guys so much that nothing cheers me up as much as talking to them and thinking of them. :)
And then it was my turn becoming 27. The funny thing is, as you get older, I think you get more nonchalant about getting older?! It’s only when you’re younger (mid-20s and below?), you feel so resistant about the whole age number getting bigger deal. In fact, I can’t wait to get 30. Cos between now and 30, so much can happen and I’m incredibly excited about that!
Anyway, Matt was so sweet to fly up this year (more like I would throw a hissy fit if he missed it again this year. hahahaah) and I was more stoked about his presence more than a mere birthday. HK definitely feels differently when he’s around. I feel more like a tourist when he’s here and I could see the city through his eyes, which were wearing a rosier-tint than mine would. And somehow, the rude people don’t matter anymore and the cold felt somewhat more manageable

Brunch place on Sat
We trawled through the wet market in my neighourhood after brunch on Saturday to get some fresh food for a casual birthday celebration on Polly’s rooftop. And anyhow, OMG, what had I been missing out on all this while?!!?!?!?! I’d been complaining about how expensive grocery shopping is in HK supermarkets and I never bothered with the markets cos I was certain the stallholders would try to charge me ridiculous amounts of money once they heard me speaking in English. But noooo, they were all honest as hell and oh gawd, the food was REALLY REALLY CHEAP!

An entire fresh fish for S$3! 1kg of yong tau foo stuff for S$6! Fresh tiger prawns for S$1 each! White mushrooms for S$2/200g! I’m so going back there!!!
OK… Totally auntie of me to get that excited about shopping at a wet market…

My fave white choc cheesecake was da bomb!
On Sunday, Matt and I scrambled to get to the movies after waking up just 15 mins before showtime. :P It was a bloody early movie at 9:05am as well! But gosh, Avatar in 3D is sooooo worth it, isn’t it?! Brunch was an awfully expensive dim sum at a traditional local restaurant. But it was funny cos the next table seemed to be filled with some Cantonese opera veterans??? They were happily singing and comparing notes, I think. Well, it looked like some sorta discussion about certain notes and keys.

And then……. I’m too sleepy to continue. Hahahahaahah, bloody anti-climax, I know. But cut me some slack, I’ve been incredibly busy and tired this week! Night world!
Today is Kirsten’s fourth birthday party with her kiddy friends! And I missed it again, just like last year. :( It was initially planned for the 1 Jan when I was still around but unfortunately, Che got the chicken pox! So all party plans had to be postponed, if not the kids might just run away thinking she was a leper. We did, however, have an intimate celebration as a family. Will post the pics when Che does email me the photos…
But then again, just like the previous year, Matt brought his laptop again and I logged onto Skype just in time to see the birthday song part. Kiks saw me on the screen and pointed me out in the midst of her little friends singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to her and I got that cheap, self-important, stoked feeling for a few seconds.
This year’s ‘cake’ was three tiers of really cute cupcakes, which I think Che got Lianne (Terelle’s mummy) to make. I spied Matt eating a couple and he claimed: “Only four”. *raises eyebrows*
Being ‘part’ of the celebration was really the highlight of my boring (but extremely relaxing) weekend. I caught a huge chunk of season 3 of Heroes and did lotsa reading, cooked up quite a storm so I’m feeling rather satiated!
Anyhow, check out Didi’s outfit below!

Hehehehehe. Last year he was dressed as a bumble bee (my gift!) and this year, he’s a tiger (his daddy’s doing). Well, at least he knows how to roar now so I guess there’s a little credibility? Poor boy, his sister gets to be dressed up (she was wearing the white singlet and purple tutu skirt I got her from H&M) but Seth gotta be animals every year… :(
Poor boy but it’s OK cos it’s funny to us adults. Hur hur hur
Whee! I managed to lay my hands on the Kate Spade bow ring I’d been obsessing over. It was initially all sold out in both HK and SG and when I saw its availability online, Germs told me she just ordered a shipment of a couple KS bags and I was close to bawling. I wasn’t read to pay a US$20 shipping for a ring that costs US$65 so I thought I should just give up on the lust.
But I thought I would try my luck anyway and dropped the PR manager an email to ask her to kindly keep a lookout for me if it ever comes in again. And yesterday I returned to the office with an email from her that was over a week old, informing me there was stock in my size!
I immediately replied to her and she promptly reverted with a “there’s only one left in the whole of HK!” I sped down after work yesterday only to find out the one they reserved for me wasn’t in my size and I was starting to panic when the lovely salesperson told me they would send the right size to the outlet at my office building today instead.
So after all the drama, I’m finally the proud owner of the adorable bow ring!

And the little box it comes in is so, so lovely as well!
Anyway, I promised to put up the pictures of the Christmas gatherings I had with my makan girls and BADSP(Y). So here they are:

Meeting this group of girls was the first on my agenda when I returned to SG and it made me so happy when I saw the spread of local hawker fares on the lazy susan on PF’s dining table. I was grinning to myself! Of course, their company was always fun and hilarious and being able to see Kristy again is always a benefit!

That girl got a little enraptured by my Chloe flats that she wore it everywhere in the house. I was hoping she could assist in expanding the flats by half a size but ah well! One can only wish. I should go get those shoe expander thingamagjig but where can I get them from?!

I also got Kristy a casual tee and shorts tee from H&M and the girl obviously likes it! I was super stoked when I saw her hilarious reaction:

The next day was spent with my girlies (yes, we call ourselves BADSPY. Totally haps name). It was an arvo at Riders Cafe where we spent more than half our time tearing through gift after gift and accumulated a huge bag of wrapper trash. Yes, I felt rather environmentally guilty. That’s why I didn’t wrap all the gifts, pals! I was being environmentally conscientious. Not lazy. Hur hur hur. But having said that, I love love love the wrappers Belle used which she got from WoodWould.

It was really fun cos we all got pretty swell gifts for each other, which wasn’t too tough, seeing how some of us requested blatantly what we wanted and how damn well we know each other’s tastes. But the pressies were sometimes so swell that we would become jealous and asked: “Why I don’t have???” instead and the said gift-giver would be like “erm…” Awkward! Actually, not really. We didn’t really care.Β it was actually more like “you like it? Ok, sucks to be you!!!”
We also went through the stash of H&M baby clothing we got for little Sophie, whom we visited after lunch. The girls were all “aww”, “I want!” over them. But it’s true, looking at those adorable baby apparel, it makes me wanna have a baaaabieeee just to see how he/she looks in those clothes!

It was my first time at Riders Cafe but it’s how lovely! Food is yums. Or rather, looks yum, seeing how I didn’t eat anything there. I was still queasy from the night before when Matt brought me to St. Regis for the buffet dinner andΒ after a couple of oysters, I felt really physically odd. Matt told me to go barf it out but I HATE the puking feeling so I refused to budge but like one teenage bulimic to another, Matt encouraged: “Go ahead and just let it out. You’ll feel better (skinnier?), I swear.” Even in the midst of my discomfort, I couldn’t help but burst out laughing in the posh setting of the restaurant.
But yes! Riders Cafe is naice! And very affordable! Albeit rather hard to get to. We had fun checking out the horses after.

Bern and Sue got me a nifty grey snood from CK Calvin Klein, which I absolutely love! I’ve been wearing it for two consecutive days since I started work on Monday and it’s perfect for the current 16 degree Celsius weather in HK. Daph got me a really cool key ring from Prada. Pom got me the Topshop belt I really wanted and a Lust, Caution DVD (Tony! Naked!), Belle got me a fashion-y book and the most hilarious gift I’ve got this season:

HAHAHAHA! It’s so silly but I love it!!!
Matt? He got me the Sennheiser noise-reduction head phones I’ve been wanting for years but too penny-pinching (OK, I know it sounds like an irony) to part with the money! It works like a dream though. I tried it on the flight back to HK from SG and it actually helped me sleep a little better on the plane!
And just cos I love them to bits and pieces and wanna end off the entry with a photo of them, I got Kiks a purple tutu skirt and Seth a dinosaur singlet from H&M, amongst other stuff. They both absolutely love their pressies that they wanted to put them all immediately and would only remove the new clothes after much coaxing! Kiks went twirling around non-stop while Seth went on his roaring act:
