Molely eats a lot in Hong Kong

I’m proud to announce there’s another condensed milk toast convert in town!!! Sue absolutely loves my (unpaid) endorsement of Tsui Wah’s condensed milk toast and has been lusting after it every other hour since she had it on Saturday afternoon.

All the shopping aside, we ate our way through whatever places I think she ought to try. That’s the thing about having friends in HK with me. I end up eating as much as they do and that also means spending more than my usual food budget and spending less on shopping (sob). Speaking of spending, Molely made a big purchase just now! Tsk tsk tsk. Bad girl.

It says "Y for Yi Lian!" Yah, it's her surprise Xmas gift for me. Really.

Anyway, I brought the girl to my usual brunch haunt – The Brunch Club on Peel Street where I had to resist from flipping through all the shelves of the newest magazines and focus on being a good pal by keeping up with chit chats.

Then she also had my favourite smoothie of all times – School Bus from Cafe O. But she had it without banana. I know, how could she right?

On Saturday, we went to this place called Tai Tam Tuk Village near Shek O Beach (I think?) for a Hong Kong-style BBQ. HK style meaning you sit there with your skewers of food and wait till your food gets cooked, unlike how we do it in Singapore – simply leave the food on the mesh and have only one or two designated cooks! Well, I guess they wanna recreate the whole campfire camaraderie so you get to chat over the burning charcoal. But the spoilt group of us was just like, “my face is burning!”, “my pores are growing!”. Hehe.

Anyhow, Alvin, Ray, Sue and I grew bored and went to explore the area a little. It was actually quite beautiful and scenic! It was peaceful and the reservoir that surrounds the area is, according to Alvin, quite a spot for some pensive reflection.

But Ray and I spoilt the peace by playing pretend that I was Little Red Riding Hood and since he was wearing brown, he gotta play the Big Bad Wolf. And we were in the ‘woods’ after all. How appropriate!

And see how tranquil the place is:

Will be cooler if it's high tide, I reckon.

After the barbie, we headed to KTV in Causeway Bay! We had our personal toilet in our huge room and FOUR wireless microphones! We could sing Spice Girls without having to pass the mics around. Cool! And the price was equivalent to what we would spend in Singapore for a place of a lower standard so Sue and I were really stoked.

Then last night, Sue bought me dinner at Jaspas in Soho. Just a 3-min walk away from my flat for lobster nachos! Tenderloin! Grilled king prawns! And Molely was ecstatic at the S$8 Heineken beer bottle.

Bad lighting aside, it was really yums!

Not very glam, I know...

I feel so guilty that I don’t have as many shots of Sue cos you know, she’s the tourist who’s trigger happy and I really should be more enthusiastic about taking pics for her so she can have more proof that she was indeed in HK. I suck. I shall resolve to be a better friend in the next few days she’s here!

Then tonight, we went to House of Jasmine for dinner with Ray and Karlye. The food was disappointedly so-so. I should have been more patient and held out for our original 8:30pm reservation at Peking House instead. :(

I was actually trying to take a shot of the pretty cutlery...

But we finished off at Hui Lau Shan for some HK desserts. Mmmm… That said, I want my Singaporean food badly!!!
