The lovely wedding deserves another post of its own so here’s one on the simple trip.
The resort that the wedding was held at was Cape Panwa so to make things easy, Matt and I stayed there too. I wanted to check out The Racha but found out it was way too inconvenient to get to the wedding venue and Matt managed to book one of the six pool villas in the resort so how can I say no to that?
I first saw the pic on the site, which I mentioned in my previous post. It looked nice and you know how photos can be so deceiving so I was worried it wouldn’t turn out to be as nice as it looked. But was I in for a surprise! The villa and its surroundings are so much prettier than I had imagined. Then again, I must have pushed my expectations way low to manage my usually-very unrealistic hopes.

The view that we woke up to.

Matt on Skype w his folks to show them the resort.
We were really fortunate to enjoy good weather for most part of it, especially the first day of my arrival on Friday where the sky was soooo blue.
The lovely thing about Cape Panwa is that it’s located at the southern tip of Phuket island so it’s mostly surrounded by the sea instead of just one part of the resort. I guess that’s the best you can get without having to hop onto a boat that ferries you to other surrounding islands.

Barbie dinner! Yums!

Matt's burnt. What's new?
Later that evening, Matt and I went for the poolside dinner party where we had the staff barbecuing fresh seafood. I forgot how many rounds I went for… It was so delish!
The boy just had to do his big splash into the pool to incur some cussing under the breath from some well-groomed ladies before he made his exit. We called it a night at 10.30pm. Completely useless, I know but Matt didn’t sleep much the night before (stag night) and neither did I (first night in 14 months without Matt next to me in my room back in Singapore). I only managed an hour! Even my weekend naps are longer than that.
The next day we awoke together after an 11-hour snooze. LUXURY!!! We had a long breakie, chatting with a few of the bride’s lovely friends. We then headed off to the Central shopping mall to seek out Matt’s wedding attire for that night.
After two hours, S$400 (plus the first outfit he bought from Island at Tangs in Singapore, which didn’t make the wedding’s stringent dress code) and loads of complains from me, Matt finally settled for an outfit.
Contrary to popular belief, I don’t enjoy the process of seeking clothes during a shopping trip. I like to stumble upon something along the way or other than that, I go to my fail-proof boutiques and brands every other week to check out new arrivals. Yes, I’m a man that way. And I swear, Matt really exhausted me out that afternoon. “Just buy a damn piece of pants and top already, you troublesome boy!!!” – I wanted to scream at him.
Even the transport driver from the hotel wasn’t too pleased. We (or rather, Matt) told him an hour was all we needed, even though I was pretty doubtful. But you know, don’t argue with the man! In the end, we took a good 2 1/2 hours. Was I a dutiful girlfriend or what! The entire time I didn’t even shop for myself, except for this gorgeous baby blue four-wheeler Samsonite luggage at 50% off! Which I didn’t get. I’m still kicking myself right now, believe me.

Happy faces before the dreadful shopping trip, of course.
We got back to the villa, jumped into the pool and got up within five minutes when we realised the wedding was starting earlier than we thought (false alarm afterwards anyway!). More on the wedding in another post!
Anyhow, the next morning, instead of joining the rest for a boat cruise around the islands in the area, Matt and I chilled for at least a good five hours by our private pool. All we did was lounge in the pool, on the daybed, read, listen to music, order room service, nap, do silly stuff in the pool (he tried to do no strokes in the pool by diving. In the end, still had to do two strokes and I challenged him to see who could hop faster in the pool…), read and nap again… We finally got up just to take a hot, bubble bath. :)

I was... falling... asleep...

Did we just wake up from a nap?
It was bliss, bliss, bliss but as with all good things, they all come to an end… The next morning, we had to wake up six in the bloody morning. Who ends their vacations like that?!?! It’s so wrong!
Ah well. Even though I pretty much just stayed in the hotel during my entire trip (minus that dreadful shopping trip), I wasn’t too fussed about the fact that I didn’t explore much of Phuket at all, given it was my first time there. I just wanted to relax as much as I could and with the dinners with Matt’s friends every night, it’s just too much effort to go out explore for a day and return to get all cleaned and dressed for the evening.
It was a pretty short vacation but I love it just the way it was. :)
