I can blog from China!

Hiiii! I can access wordpress in our motherland! I guess the country’s really opening up yah? When I was last in Shanghai last Nov or in Guangzhou in Feb, I couldn’t access my blog. Naice surprise.

But it’s being boring here in Shanghai cos I’m focusing on the work part first before the sight-seeing part this weekend. The plan is to take the two-hour train rides to Suzhou and Hangzhou for day trips. Anddddd Mummy’s coming again! (With Gor. Phuw.) Just like what Sue said, my mum is how haps. Jetsetter. (Gor too. Phuw.)

Mummy’s a veteran when it comes to our motherland. She’s been to Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou before but it’s real nice cos it’s the first time in a long time we’re ‘travelling’ together! HK wasn’t counted since I’m based there.

But I haven’t found out anything yet… Will have to ask the concierge tomorrow! Meanwhile, I’m watching HK cop drama series in my hotel room (speaking in Mandarin, of course!). I just realised it’s the first time I watched a HK drama since I moved to the city and I had fun trying to spot the places they filmed at.

I know it’s common for hotels to have all the major international channels but I’m just stoked they have SO MANY, unlike just MTV and CNN at my hotel in Seoul.

Cant wait to snooze after a long day...

Last entry before Shanghai

So this shall be my last entry before I return from my 10-day trip in Shanghai cos as you know, our motherland is known for its ‘Great Firewall of China’ so blogging is not encouraged there.

Just a short one as I still have more packing and work to do…

Yesterday, after a short chillax session on my own reading the latest issues of Lucky and Shop Til You Drop (I found it in HK!!) and snacking on the egg tarts the family got in Macau and in that famous bakery in the neighbourhood, I got ready to meet Debbie for dinner.

I first met Debbie during a media event when I was still back at CLEO and she was with Marketing magazine. That was about four to five years ago? We weren’t close but we managed to keep in touch, thanks to Facebook.

So since we bumped into each other the day before, why not arrange for a dinner? And I brought her to Jaspas (again. Polly must be proud of me…) since I was certain they have good food.

It’s the first time we had a sit-down meal together and it was really nice actually. I think that’s the beauty of getting to really know someone for the first time. You see that everyone has a story and listening to them makes you learn new things about an aspect of life you might not have seen before.

That said, it could be one of those conversations that I badly needed. The kind where you walk away, pondering about what transpired. I’m hungry for more but one shan’t be greedy…

Speaking of conversations, thank God for good pals. Had a bad day today and again, got obsessed with negative thoughts. Sigh. When will this ever end?

But my pals are, somehow, damn spiritual and came to chat with me on their own accord and we don’t chat all that often anymore. Maybe at most once a week? I love their timeliness and spasticness cos they made me feel so loved.

Even during moments where I didn’t have the emotional capacity to cheer myself up (me not robot hmmkay) and that boyfriends are useless cos they’re just  boys being boys, you remember you always have reliable girlfriends.

Thanks Bahnice. Thanks Ah Fern. Thanks Pomelo. Thanks for, erm, ‘bringing’ me to dinner with yall. Gimme pics of us ‘at’ dinner, ah belle!!!

Till I return next week! Night world. Hope tomorrow will be a better day for both you and me… :)

Mummy in HK no more :(

Such an irony! It was all 18 degrees the entire period Mum was here and today is a clear blue sky at 26 degrees! Mummy must be pissed cos she was going on about how cold it was. Hahaha

Gor, Yi Ma and Mum left this morning at about 8:15am in a cab and I trundled back to bed until the part-time helper arrived at 10:30am and I’m happy now cos I have a spick and span flat. I was dying for that, especially after all the crowding in the tiny space for the past five days!

That said, I did really enjoy having them around. I was on my computer last night and Mum was in the kitchen fussing about (sometimes, I do wonder what Mums do in kitchens. They just look like they’re just fussing about.) and it was nice. I was just looking at the scene in my kitchen and it felt real nice. It felt like I’m really home again. :)

Haha, that’s Mummy rocking my accessories while we were waiting for our lunch at Spring Deer. Such a coincidence, actually bumped into Debbie (Cai) there! She was just sitting at the table across from mine. Meeting her for a dinner in the neighbourhood. I can’t decide where to bring her to yet!

The minimum order was one entire duck so we doggie packed the pieces we couldn’t finish and I’m happy cos I’m having them for lunch now. So good even though they’ve been kept overnight! Yum! Mummy also made duck and scallop porridge this morning before they left so I have good ol’ porridge for lunch too. Yums. :)

After lunch, we went to have a peek at Kowloon Park. It’s right there, practically on the doorsteps of my office and I never went over before! I always heard it’s a bit of an attraction but I didn’t know they actually have many types of ducks, flamingoes, swans and turtles in the pond.

Che, when’s your turn with Raymond and the kids huh?! We can go hang out Disneyland the whole day what!!!

En route to lunch, we saw a Chinese pharmacy named exactly the way Gor’s Chinese name is written so I made him posed under the signboard. Hur hur. And I also spotted the ‘Ip Man Wing Chun Association’ in Tsim Sha Tsui, opposite Chungking Mansion. I called Matt and told him and just like that, he sounded quite excited. O_o Boys.

While I was tolling away at work on Thursday and Friday, the family trooped to Lantau Island and Macau and aunties being aunties, Mummy and Yi Ma went shopaholic-crazy on herbs and preserved stuff like dried scallops, abalones and ginseng. And now, I’m left with a small container of sliced ginseng, under strict instructions from both aunties to consume them everyday. Wah lau. Sian. But I know my guilt wouldn’t let them go to waste so yes, I’ll have a slice every day…

While the great thing about having Mummy around is that I never have a sink filled with dishes to be washed, it also meant two of my cute Ikea bowls were broken. When I heard the noise early this morning, I got up, put my head out for a peep at my mum in the kitchen, she gave me a sheepish look and offered to pay for them. Hahahahaah, my mummy’s too cute. I was just waitingggg for my mum to break something in the kitchen cos as consummate as she is as an auntie, she’s always breaking our porcelain cutlery back home.

I told her not to be silly. I was waiting in anticipation for her to break something anyway (it’s like waiting in anticipation to christen the house like that…) and went back to bed.

I love Chinese medications packaging!

I love Chinese medications' packaging!

I’ve been wearing hats almost every day since I bought my first hat in Seoul more than a week ago. It’s an irony cos I was just saying in an entry just a week earlier about head gears that I’m not a hat person. And I went on to get three hats in Seoul! I think I’m a convert now. Something new for me to start a collection of… Hehehe…

I haven’t had some personal lounging time to myself for a long time now (two weeks?) and I’m desperate for some. I know, I’m such a contradiction. When I’m all alone for too long, I bitch about it and when I’ve company 24/7, I complain too. Us human beings are a complicating lot. Ah well, it’s about striking a balance, no?

Ok, gotta go. Hello couch, empty flat and magazines!

Bruno – Sacha Baron Cohen’s new show

OMG, I absolutely can’t wait for Bruno to be out! I just watched the trailer on Perez Hilton and forwarded Matt the link and we were both laughing our heads off. I went on You Tube to look for more Bruno videos and these two are what I thought were the funnier ones:

If you’re the victims of Cohen’s jokes, I can understand why you’ll be offended by his alter egos but as an audience, I don’t see why people should take themselves and him so seriously and be peeved about his jokes! He’s just taking a dig at everything and he’s too hilarious to be angry at!

Meanwhile, Matt got himself a hair cut and I’m probably (very) biased but it’s absolutely yummy to me and I just can’t take my eyes off him now as he reads boring podiatry news online while I read, erm, Perez Hilton…

Mummy’s in Hong Kong!

Sorry, I’ve been a blog slacker. :( Just that my family’s in town and the lack of space and privacy makes it hard to blog. Mummy made her maiden trip to Hong Kong two days ago, about the same time I arrived back in HK from Seoul. Gor and Yi Ma (mummy’s older sis) came along as well and while it’s certainly nice to have some family staying with me, I could practically (read: being dramatic) feel my tiny flat quaver under our combined weight.

But it feels real loved being able to wake up to breakie every day. :) It does feel like home all over again. Mummy’s incessant chatting and laughing. And yes, nagging, of course. Mum bunked in with me on my bed while Gor’s on the foldout bed and Yi Ma on the comfy couch since Gor’s legs are too long to be comfortable on the couch.

It’s also nice having a chit-chat with Mummy before falling asleep. Mum and I can always chat very freely without any reservation and my absence in Singapore does make a difference so being able to resume that even for now is great.

I took out the clothing that needs some sewing out just now. Hur hur. I even get to have abalone for dinner the other night! Yums. I’ve made reservations for us to have lunch at the famous Spring Deer restaurant at Mody Road at Tsim Sha Tsui tomorrow. It’s one of Belle’s favourite eating places in HK too. They serve real yummy Peking Duck and we actually walked in last night but it’s fully booked! Damnit.

Gor’s being adventurous and out having a beer and wander around Soho while Mummy’s chatting with Yi Ma. I’m exhausted as hell after a long day at work, chasing the Seoul Fashion Week organisers for catwalk pics. ”I need the pics! No pics! No stories!” And thank god they finally came through…

Gor asked me to join him and honestly, I would actually loved to. But today’s one of those days where I’m really (in Matt’s words) brain dead. Matt always go on how “brain dead” he is after work almost every day and I never use that phase before until today. I’m really toast man.

Sigh, I wanna unpack my Seoul luggage but there just isn’t space to! Guess I’ll do it on Sunday or Monday night and pack my luggage for Shanghai at the same time before I head back to my motherland (China lah. SG’s homeland) on Tuesday morning…

I was showering just now and was amused when I realised the cities I travelled to recently all started with ‘S’. Singapore, Seoul and Shanghai next. Shanghai will be between 10 degrees Celsius to 19 when I’m there so that’s a lot more doable than Seoul, which was between 0 to 9. Can’t wait for dinners with Joey and Ciao Wen in Shanghai!

And oh, Hanafi and Cat will be in town this week so it’ll be great catching up with them and playing the lamp post. Hur hur.

Ok, I’m gonna get knocked out. Have a hot Friday night out while I get intimate with my bed sheets and oh yes, my mum too.
