While I was back in SG for a week, my very naice boyfriend got me my early 26th birthday pressie. It’s always been set that he would get me a DSLR but we’d been toying with between Canon and Nikon. I was more agreeable on Canon cos I’d always been a big fan of Canon.
Anyhow, when the new MacBook and MacBook Pro were launched, I got very distracted from the DSLR. Then my tech bf (being the wise tech bf that she is) chided me for being greedy. I already have a MacBook that’s perfectly functional and I want a new one. :( I think she would smack me through the computer screen if she could.
So last week, with the verrrryyyy patient Martina and Ah Kwa in tow, we went to Best Denki at Ngee Ann City first then realised the guys there knew jet shit about DSLR. So we popped over to Lucky Plaza. The uncles here are really veterans man. After 90 minutes, 3 shops, 2 children who could entertained themselves very well and 2 uncles raving about the new Nikon D90, Matt plonked down money for the Nikon.

And that’s not before I called Char’s Alywin to get assurance on Matt’s purchase. Coincidentally, he was with Nicky so he passed the phone to Nicky and it was naice to hear his voice again after so long. He assured me Nikon is better than Canon nowadays and with his advice, I nodded at Matt. Award-winning photographer with Reuters leh! Don’t pray pray.
And don’t see Matt ang moh, he can really drive a hard bargain. He refused to barge from his original asking price and even managed to get 2 4GB SD cards with readers, 2 original Nikon batteries, a lense filter, screen protector and the chic Lowe Pro camera bag I was eyeing. He even got the uncle to absorb the GST. AND give him the tax refund receipt of S$100.
I would have gave in halfway through the list. But after so much bargaining, we still exceeded his original budget by S$650. I felt so bad about it. But Matt was so sweet about it. He said I could buy him dinner instead. So the four of us went to Thai Express and I bought Matt dinner indeed, albeit a cheap one. hehehehe
Anyhow, apparently, the Nikon D90 is the world’s first DSLR with an HD movie mode. Cool! And other stuff like a built-in image sensor cleaner. See more here. I also like how it uses SD card instead of the chunky CF. I must go figure out my new toy. Even Ashton Kutcher is a fan!
Alywin and Char were so sweet to call me the next day after reading about a huge promo from Audio House but reckoned we still got a good deal anyway. Phew!
Oh, and I love my Ah Kwa too! When we were at Best Denki, she disappeared for a long while. She said she was going to the toilet so we thought she went to PS but when she rejoined us, she got me a little something from On Pedder which I was eyeing earlier! And she also wrote me a really sweet card.
I felt very, very loved that evening. Thanks BF and BFF. hahahaha
