Lamma Island & Macau

Saraid, Matt and I went to Lamma Island just cos we didn’t know where else to go but it was a really quaint little island! We went on Boxing Day so it was really crowded. There was nothing much to do on Lamma Island except eat seafood and hike so we did the latter.

After a short trek, Matt went rock throwing while I was thankful I could sit down for a rest. Then we chilled at a cafe near the ferry which serves like the best vegetarian samosa ever! Damn shiok.

We then squeezed with 247 other passengers to get on the twice-hourly ferry. Gawd, it was freezing on the ferry. Even Matt had to succumb to putting my cashmere scarf around his head.

Lamma Island was super chilled but there’s something about that little island that’s just so charming.

The next day we headed to Macau mainly so I could validate my HK work visa. But bloody hell, I didn’t know I was supposed to tell the immigration officer when I came back to HK that he needs to chop that special chop on my visa. In the end, on my passport, I was just another tourist who went to Macau and out. Damn.

I only knew about that when I tried to go on the express queue for HK residents and ID holders when I was rushing for my flight back to SG on NYE.

Anyhow, Macau’s weather was TERRIBLE! OMG. I think I’ll die within a week of staying there. Granted, the Portuguese egg tarts were seriously damn good but I could find equally good ones in my neighbourhood.

I didn’t bother taking that many pictures cos the weather made faraway shots looked like crap anyway. :(

We did the touristy thing by checking out The Sacred Ruins of Saint Paul’s Church:

And after that, Saraid and Matt went to check out a fortress just next to the ruins while I sat on a bench, worn my sunnies and slept upright. I was soooo exhausted cos I slept just an hour the night before. I was feeling the fever coming down already but already bought the ferry tickets to Macau and had to get my visa stamped (but so much for that), so no choice. :(

By the time we were done at the sacred ruins, it was 5pm then and our ticket back to HK was 10.30pm and I just couldn’t bear with the thought of another five hours. I managed to sleep quite well sitting upright. I put on my sunnies so passer-bys wouldn’t know I was snoozing and attempt to steal my belongings.

We got to The Venetian at 6pm and bought last-min tickets to watch Cirque du Soleil’s Zaia, which had a 25% discount for last-min ticket purchases. We then grabbed a quick (but expensive!) dinner before heading to the show.

Matt and I returned to HK feeling worse, no thanks to Macau’s weather. I sent Matt off the next morning at 9am, went home by 11:30am and slept all the way till 5pm.

Posts of SG to come but I loaned Matt my Canon digicam (cos I got a better deal. hee. More on that later too.) and forgot to take my SD card out. Hopefully the boy would email me my pics like he said he would!

Back in HK again

Sorry for missing in action! I bought myself a spontaneous ticket back to Singapore last Sunday night after Matt left HK. I felt sad and sore about having to spend the new year without him so I browsed around to look at ticket prices. Cathay Pacific had return tickets for just HK$1,600! So with taxes, I paid about S$400 for it. Cheap!

I planned it to be a surprise but Matt guessed it anyway. It’s cool since I get to have him picked me up at the airport. But so much for a cheap ticket. I left the office too late and missed my original flight. I sat on the bench in the middle of the busy HK airport on New Year’s eve and fought the tears (I never missed a flight before ok!!!) that were coming down my face.

I called Matt and was panicking. “What if I can’t get on the next flight?! I don’t want to usher NY in alone at the HK airport!” and went on to be a drama queen for a while. The next flight was a full flight so the only way I could get on it was if someone does what I did.

I called Karen and she consoled me. I called Sue and she laughed at me.

So I walked to Terminal 2 and had my fave Shanghainese noodles to cheer myself up. And went back to the counter, hoping that I got a ticket. But alas, I had five people in front of me in the same situation!!!

I panicked again and was so nervous. But thank god I secured myself a ticket. And had to part with S$120. Then I had to run all the way to my gate (it’s the last gate! Thanks Murphy!) while coughing my lungs out cos my ticket was only confirmed 40 minutes before the departure time.

I could only breathe properly after I belted myself to my seat. Phew. I get to spend NYE and NY with my family and Matt!

It was crowded at the SG airport too and when I saw Matt, I just pouted and he laughed and took me into his arms and told me everything’s ok now.

Went home to a delighted Kirsten so happy to see her yiyi. And a totally cute Seth who can walk unaided now.

Then I said “happy new year” and kissed Matt at home, in the living room with Channel 5 on and my parents wishing each other happy new year too. It was sooo simple but so nice.

:)

Blessed new year to you too.
