WGSN’s Xmas party!

So after all the talk about making my own tree costume. This is my finished product after spending an hour rolling and taping and taping and taping:

I could have done a better job with the ‘leaves’ but by then the whole tedious process had really worn me out. So, while the maid was still cleaning my place, I was busy turning myself into a tree and it’s darn embarrassing seeing her trying not to laugh at me and praised me for my work instead.

I then met Polly, who just stayed above me, and walked down to Hollywood Road together. We had to walk past all the pubs and restaurants alongside the Mid-Levels escalators with Polly in her sari and me in my DIY tree. I focused my eyes on her and tried not to look around at all the amused stares I could feel burning through my tree bark.

And the night went on to become a blast.

And we went on to pick our own gift from the pile of presents, which the admin girls had made the effort to shop for. The funny part of this process is that the next person after you who’s supposed to pick a gift has the choice to take one from the pile or from the people before them who’s already took their gifts and showed everyone what they’d gotten. And each gift can only transfer owners thrice.

Bloody hell. I WAS A DAMN GOOD GIFT PICKER OK!!! First time I picked, I got a Philips blender, which would be perfect for my new place! So expectedly, it went into somebody else’s possession. Since someone picked my gift, I had the choice to take another person’s gift or take a new present. So I took a new one.

This time round, I got a Philips cake mixer!!! Which I really wanna keep for myself too cos I wanna start baking but CB!!!!!!! (sorry for the language. Really pissed lah!!!) Someone stole it AGAIN!!!

ANGRY THAT PEOPLE STOLE MY GIFT!!! EVIL PEOPLE!!!

In the end, I ended up with a really chic first aid box so I’m happy. Funny how all the stuff I picked are great for my new place. Guess my new apartment and I are really fated!

Anyhow, back on the presents subject, DO YOU KNOW THE BEST GIFTS OF THE NIGHT WERE ALL PICKED RANDOMLY BY ME?!?! Phuw.

OK, ok. Don’t be sore anymore. I did win another lucky draw prize of Park ‘N Shop (a supermarket of Cold Storage standard in HK) voucher. Only 5 people won that night.

And I also won 2nd runner-up for my tree costume!!! I got a S$50 voucher for the Indian restaurant we were in.

More pics!

Meanwhile, here’s hoping everyone has a fabulous Christmas! One where no one steals your presents from you…

Me and my boy

He stole my Boost juice.

Because Matt and I are currently based in different cities for work purposes, any moment spent physically together feels so stolen.

Yes, we have the aid of technology to keep the distance nearer but nothing can be compared to being in each other’s company – most of the time not doing anything but just chatting, joking and laughing.

Long-distance relationships (LDR) are just not healthy, honestly. I’ve had four months of it and I can’t say I enjoy it most of the time. If you force me to be positive about my situation, well, there’s always good things out of any situation but LDR is just something I hope any couple wouldn’t have to go through. That said, LDRs are really good tests for relationships, no matter how new or old.

I know we are fortunate enough to not go on for more than a month without seeing each other. Either he flies in to HK or I fly out to SG. But it’s just not the same. It’s not the same talking over Skype about our days and etc.

It’s not the same if he can’t be next to me when I watch a movie to make spastic comments to. It’s not the same if he spots new pimples and can’t complain immediately out loud to me. It’s not the same if we can’t explore my new neighbourhood and discover new spots together.

Like life, relationships are made up of those beautiful little moments that bond the two of you together and make you fall in love more with each other.

Just chatting over the phone, sms, online or even Skype just doesn’t cut it.

So, our two weeks together when I was back in SG was very much necessary for our growth together. During that short period, I fell even harder for him. He confessed about the things he’s been doing as part of his plans for our future together, completely unknown to me all these while. And he was even embarrassed to admit to me. He had no idea how moved I was after he told me.

Well, he also had no idea the only confession I have that he’s been kept in the dark is exactly how much I’d been spending. But my embarrassment won’t touch him like he did to me, I’m sure. :/

So, even though he couldn’t be physically around all the time together to take care of me, he’s been doing his part of ‘taking care’ of me in future by saving ‘heftily’ on his side. This coming from a boy who didn’t understand the concept of savings 6 months ago. Love does do wonders sometimes…

During my two weeks in SG, I’ve also been visiting the osteopath at Matt’s clinic. I’ve been having a chronic backache for months and my mum has a serious case of scoliosis, so it’s been bothering me for ages. Matt was really sweet to schedule the appointments for me and was there for one when he didn’t have any patient, which was helpful cos the osteopath, Steve, was saying some jargon that I had no freaking idea about.

We re-watched the Lord of The Rings trilogy during the evenings, had sushi in bed, went out just to grab ice-cream, had long walks. Our time spent together was simple but every moment was pure bliss and happiness.

But I often wonder when can we enjoy that on a permanent basis and not on a stolen, temporary situation. Sigh. We’ll just see where life takes us, shan’t we?

On one of our walks. :)

Sis’ 31st

Che turned 31 in Dec! I was around in SG so the family, except for Dad and Gor, went to Hua Ting at Orchard Hotel for a celebratory meal. Matt and I arrived much earlier than the rest so we ordered beforehand and I got Che longevity buns. They came in such a fancy set up!

But no birthday is complete without a birthday cake with candles and a birthday wish so I went to the cafe downstairs to grab one before Mum, Che and the kids arrived. But bloody hell, I deliberately instructed the cafe cashier to pass the cake to Hua Ting’s staff and get them to put the lit candles on before bringing it over to our table. But when desert time arrived, the Hua Ting waitress just came over with the cake in its box and paper box, “Here’s your cake.” LIKE WTF??!

Che is not fussy and was surprised we even got a cake but seriously!!!! I was grumbling while Matt was laughing (he always laugh when I bitch and curse! O_o) though he wasn’t laughing when he saw how much I paid for the small cake using his credit card. hahahaah

Kiks just gotten her first salon haircut. She was like, “Look Uncle Matthew, Kirsten cut hair. So pretty right?” O_o

A nice family pic. :) What makes it nicer is Seth's tummy is peeking out! :D

And pics of my fave boys. :)

It always make me happy after spending time with my family. No one loves you like your family, no? :)

Living alone and loving it

After three nights of packing into the wee hours, two electricity tripping (I swear it’s the water heater’s fault) and one leaky fridge, I’ve finally settled properly into my new apartment.

Though it’s still darn messy and my curtains have yet to go up and I need to do something about the couch AND the fridge (I honestly don’t know what happened! Can anyone tell me why would a fridge, erm, leak? The freezer’s fine! It’s not not cold enough.)

This weekend will be my first weekend in the new place and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m not sure why but I think I need to make better friends with my new apartment so it’ll like me more and not do weird things like electricity tripping and brown-water spewing anymore.

Apparently, cos the building is so old, the water pipes are all rusty. So if I’m away for more than a few days, I need to run the taps for a few minutes to rid the brown rusty water. Eeeeeww. :( What to do… HK and its poor maintenance of its buildings…

Anyway, enough words and more pics instead!

If you see the bathroom pic, you would see the tap running. That was my attempt to let the brown water end its run. And I’m totally loving the ‘headrest’ for my bed! I’ve always wanted this tree concept on the bedroom after seeing one (but that was a painting) in an interior magazine years ago. I like the grey and yellow juxtaposition a lot. I think it’s really quite lovely. :)

And I’ve also brought a few stuff from my cluttered office cubicle home to do it up a little instead. Anyhow, I should seriously get a heater soon before I freeze to death after a shower. Brrrrr!

I’m loving my Cadbury tin! I saw it in the supermarket back home in SG and told Matt I wanted to get it just cos it’s pretty. He was really sweet to oblige immediately for my nonsensical request but I was a happy bunny. And I got my pretty Paris magnets from City Super in HK.

And totally loving my lights from Paperchase. Spanks for the supplies gift, tech bf. :) Yes, you’re still my tech bf, I won’t break up with you even though you’re no longer coming to HK to spend NYE with me so we can lock, erm, lips at the tick of midnight. Actually, thinking about it. Damn you Sue.

AIYA. I talk a lot of rubbish when I’m exhausted. It’s 6am and I’m still not bloody asleep. Oh gawd.

Back to HK

Oooh, WordPress has a new interface for its dashboard and it looks more complicated than what I’m used to… Why can’t they keep things simple? :(

Anyhow, sorry for the lack of update.  Has been busy busy in Singapore and then super busy busy in HK once I arrived yesterday.

I came straight to my new apartment from the airport and even while I was on the airport express, the Ikea guy and Now cable guy started calling me about the delivery and setup. The part-time maid was waiting as well.

And I arrived at my small apartment with so many other random people walking around, trying not to bump into each other. And doing that amongst the amount of stuff I have (yes, i know… I’ve only been in HK for four months… But the amount of stuff is quite unbelievable. Or rather, knowing me, actually quite believable).

Wall colours are lovely, the new metal gate’s lovely (yes, complete with that Chinese lion head handle. hahahaa), the solitude’s lovely and oh yes, of course. The neighbourhood’s definitely lovely.

I stay at Peel Street at Mid-Levels, Central. It’s about 5 streets higher than Hollywood Road so it’s right in the midst of all the action in Central, yet not right into where the noise would bother me. It’s actually really quiet and peaceful and I’ve loving the fact that the elevator stops right outside my door!

I walked to work this morning (after managing to literally hammer my way out of the metal gate after an hour…) and it was so lovely. :)

It was my first walk to work from my new apartment and I’m loving it. I suspect the nice weather has a lot to do with it too though.

But gosh, the perils of the walk. Every day, I’ll walk past H&M, CK Underwear, Giordano Ladies and CK Calvin Klein. EVERY DAY. I mean, them amongst many other brands. But those brands are the ones I frequent the most. And I saw the ‘Further Sale’ sign at CK Calvin Klein this morning. OH GAWD, CAN’T YOU SPARE ME?!

Ok, before my tech bf accuses me of being a spastic drama, I’m happy to say my tree costume went rather well last night!

Last night was the company’s Christmas party and we held it at Jashan on Hollywood Road. Being in an Indian restaurant, the theme was Bollywood and I thought of the usual sari until Belle chided me to be more creative! (Yes, rubik cube…)

And I immediately thought of going as a tree. And that was two weeks ago. But I didn’t prep for anything until Tues evening when I did a last-min frentic search online on where to find costumes in HK. Pottigner Street, which is very near my place too, is apparently the place to go for costumes. But I knew my schedule and knew that with all these random people at my place, I won’t be able to get out.

So I googled on how to make one instead. Promptly after that, Matt and I went to Popular to buy some crepe papers and a roll of double-sided tape. All of $5!

So while Matt was busy making steak dinners for us (YUM), I was busy reading up on how to make my tree costume and of course, packing at the same time. And before I ramble on (what the hell am I talking about, like, right now?), I shall stop and go take a shower…

This is what a 14-hour work day with no lunch nor dinner break does to you… So much work, so much work to catch up on……

Photos over the weekend ok!! And with Seth and Kiks’ pics on Sis’ birthday too… :D

Night night. :)

Sis’ new place

So Che and her family have finally joined my parents in Tampines-land. I came back from HK just in time to avoid helping them moved and just went for the finished product instead. :D

They did some renovation work to restructure the master bedroom and kitchen. The master bedroom now has a longer corridor and kickass bathroom with fancy shower heads to boot. So does the common bathroom. Remember the A4-sized rainbath that I gushed about in Pom’s hotel room in The Mira in HK? Che has that in her bathroom! And they also got some beautiful tiles too. I’m loving the taps – the water flows out like it’s from a fountain.

Cos their apartment’s on the first floor, the swimming pool is literally five steps away and thank God it’s the kids’ pool. Cos dear Kirsten thinks the estate is her playground and fancies a walk by herself whenever. The second day they moved in, Che was horrified to find Kiks missing and the garden’s gate opened. She ran out to finally find prissy Kiks in the second level of the clubhouse. Like seriously?!?! That girl ah.

The view from the edge of the living room to the kids' pool. How gorge right?

Che also had one side of the kitchen wall knocked off and in place is an island but to quote Che, it’s a “peninsula” instead cos “it’s attached to another wall. Not an island cos an island is on its own.” Whatevs. Don’t know how these fancy terms for kitchen stuff lah. Not as if my mouse-sized HK apt can put an island or floating coconut or whatevs. Hmph.

Then Che went on to tell me how the huge living room can possibly be fitted with chairs and the peninsula can be used for a cooking demo. And guests can come in from the patio’s gate instead of the traditional door via the living room. And I was like………… Random… I thought I was the dreamer amongst the three of us… My sister surprises me (not sure in a good or bad way) sometimes…

Seth got fatter! Woot! He’s so cute now. He’s learnt how to wave and clap and waved to my mum and me on his own will when we arrived. But he’s also grown naughtier! Likes to go bother his older sis. But she deserves it lah, she’s so prissy!

Matt got two sets of colour markers for Kiks and when I showed it to her in the car, she was like, “Oh! That marker very good one, you know!” And Che and I just exchanged weird glances and I mumbled to her, “Yah… As if she knows lor…”

Then after that, I brought Kiks cycling around the estate and there was this garage sale held by her neighbours and Kiks got Che to buy her a second-hand doll and pram and started pushing it around. When we were near the pool, Kiks told the doll, “Don’t worry ok? You won’t fall into the pool. Che che is here.” O_o If only she’s this sweet to Clueless Seth!

Yes, two very typical expressions from them. Prissy Kiks and clueless Seth.

Yes, two very typical expressions from them. Prissy Kiks and Clueless Seth.

No, Kiks wasn’t teaching her brother how to draw. It was Seth crawling up to her to irritate her by swinging his hands around so the markers would fly off. And Kiks would push him away. Sigh, siblings.

Drama in SG

So this didn’t happen during my current stay in SG – it was two weeks ago when I flew straight to SG from BKK. On Sunday, the day before I was due to leave for HK, a fish bone got stuck in my throat. Ugh, one of my biggest phobias since Mum got a similar incident when I was little cos I went to A&E with her and Dad and was traumatised since.

I did the usual swallow rice and bread stuff without chewing and bleah, I almost choked on them and barfed but I forced them down anyway – to no avail. Matt sterilised the tweezers at home and tried to look down my throat but my throat had the natural reflex of blocking, erm, foreign stuff so Matt couldn’t see anything.

Went to the GP, who fiddled with my throat for 15 minutes. He could feel something but couldn’t see so he referred me to A&E instead. UGH.

Went A&E, doc still couldn’t see anything. Went for X-ray, could barely see anything. I started to think I was hallucinating the pain but there it was, sharp and vivid! By then, my throat was so bruised, I spat out quite a bit of blood. :(

But I was quite taken by my X-ray and admired it against the lights while Matt was absorded in the papers or his laptop. I waited for the ENT (Ear, nose & throat) specialist while I sat there, staring at my X-ray, grinning to myself.

The specialist came and we went into his room and he tried to go what the former docs did – to no avail again. By then, my eyes were so sick of watering from the gag reflex action. :(

So he took this microscopic torchlight, put it through my nose so it’ll go down into my throat. Matt was so intrigued and was saying he wanted one for himself and I was like, (yes I could still talk with that down my nose and throat) “but you don’t need that for your scope of work what!” Matt went on to ask the ENT dude how much that would cost and they had a short banter when I started giggling. ENT dude asked me if it was ticklish and I said no but went on laughing for a while before I told him I just found the whole scenario funny and I had to laugh it off.

Then we all laughed for a bit and I wanted Matt to take a pic of me with that thingy but I wanted to appear cool about it – from what grace I had left.

Morale of story is that fish bone was never found but the sharp pain went away after a bit and ENT dude concluded that all the poking must had pushed it down my throat. Nice.
